50 Cent – “Streets of Blood” Interview

10 QUICK QUESTION FOR 50

Curtis James Jackson, III, aka 50 Cent was born on July 6, 1975 in South Jamaica, Queens, where he was raised by his single-mom until she was murdered when he was only 8. He was taken in by his grandparents, but began hanging out with the wrong kids and began selling crack by the age of 12. While still a teenager, he was arrested and convicted for drug dealing, and turned his life around while serving out a six-month sentence.

50centAfter being paroled, he parlayed his street cred into an enviable career in gangsta’ rap with the help of the late Jam Master Jay of Run-DMC, and the rest, as they say, is musical history. Here, he talks about his latest film, Streets of Blood, a crime thriller set in New Orleans and co-starring Val Kilmer.

Kam Williams: Hi 50, what interested you in making Streets of Blood?

50 Cent: I was looking to work with Robert DeNiro on this picture but ended up working with him on Righteous Kill. The script sat for a while, but once they got Kilmer involved I knew I had to do it.

KW: Tell me a little about your character, Stan Green.

50:  My character Stan wants to play things straight but cannot provide the things his family needs and wants, so he makes some decisions that catch up with him.

KW: How did you prepare for the role?

50: I lost 25 pounds for the role of Stan. I wanted it to be realistic. I wanted the audience to believe I was vulnerable and in danger in parts of the film.

KW: How was it co-starring with Val Kilmer?

50: Amazing

KW: Is it true that you liked working with him so much that you gave him a classic car worth $100,000 as a gift after the shooting?

50: I gave Val Kilmer a ‘67 Impala as a gift for taking time to teach me some of the craft.

KW: I see you have already signed on to make eight more movies over the next couple of years. Which do you prefer, acting or music?

50: I am conditioned for music, although I like acting as you can tell a more complete story with a movie character than you can with a 3-minute song.

KW: When will your next CD, Before I Self Destruct, finally going to be released?

50: Very soon.

KW: The bookworm Troy Johnson question: What was the last book you read?

50: The 50th Law, written by myself & Robert Greene. I had to read my final edit in preparation for the Sept 8th release.

KW: The Rudy Lewis question: Who’s at the top of your hero list?

50: Myself, as I have overcome so many obstacles

KW: What advice do you have for anyone who wants to follow in your footsteps?

50: [Kidding)] Don’t try it! No, just be yourself as an artist and entrepreneur.

KW: Thanks for the time, 50.

50: Thank you.

Niecy Nash – “G Force” Interview

G FOR GLAMOROUS NIECY!

Niecy Nash was born Carol Denise Ensley in Palmdale, California on February 23, 1970. She developed an interest in show business at a very early age after seeing the fabulous Lola Falana on TV. But she first earned a B.A. at California State University before embarking on a career in Hollywood, starting out as a standup comic.

niecynKnown for always wearing a trademark flower in her hair, Niecy made her big screen debut in Boys on the Side in 1995, which led to her landing support roles in such movies as Cookie’s Fortune, The Bachelor and Malibu’s Most Wanted. The glamorous actress subsequently appeared in such blockbusters as Spiderman 2, Guess Who and Code Name: The Cleaner and Reno 911!: Miami, the screen version of the hit television series where she co-stars as Deputy Raineesha Williams.

Speaking of TV, Niecy is also recognized for playing Benita, the late Bernie Mac’s sister on The Bernie Mac Show. Here, she talks about her work in G-Force, the Disney family comedy featuring a mix of animation and live-action which is currently the #1 movie at the box office.

Kam Williams: Hi Niecy,

Niecy Nash: Hi baby, how are ya?

KW: Great. Thanks so much for the time.

NN: You’re more than welcome.

KW: Do you have one of your trademark flowers in your hair right now, early in the morning, as we speak?

NN: [Laughs] I’m gonna tell you the truth that I do not.

KW: How did you come to wear a flower all the time?

NN: When I started out in the “home makeover” genre, I was the only black woman doing that type of TV show. But I wasn’t naïve enough to think I was going to remain the only one. So I decided to come up with a way of setting myself aside. It started out as branding, but now I’m a little tied to it, because if I go out without a flower, my fans get upset.

KW: What varieties of flowers do you wear?

NN: Oh, roses, orchids, a little bit of everything.

KW: Do florists and fans help you out?

NN: Not so much florists, but fans definitely do.

KW: W.C. Fields once said, “Never work with children or animals,“ because you’ll be upstaged. What interested you in doing G-Force, in spite of that age-old Hollywood maxim?

NN: But you have to work with Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney. So, if it comes down to that, hey! I actually auditioned for him, and he hired me right away.

Dr. Boogie – Look Good, Feel Beautiful Interview

THE HAIR CARE SECRETS OF CELEBRITY HAIR STYLIST, DR. BOOGIE

There are two things that every woman desires in life--- someone to make them feel beautiful, and someone they can trust to tell all their secrets to. Celebrity “it girls” such as Kimora Lee Simmons, Lisa Raye, Raven Symone, Taraji P. Henson, and Vivica A. Fox know who to turn to, when they need someone to make them gorgeous from head-to-toe, inside-and-out; and that some one is none other than celebrity hair stylist—Dr. Boogie. Dr. Boogie is the acclaimed hairstylist responsible for giving Eve and Keyshia Cole their signature short crops, and is hailed as the man with the “magic hands,” because once he touches someone’s head, their hair takes on a new life of its own, and becomes “magical.”

Dr. Boogie

Dr. Boogie

Growing up in the ghettoes of Richmond, California, Uarian Langerston, also known as Dr. Boogie, dreamed of doing the hair of the rich and famous. With out reservation, he packed up his bags and relocated to Hollywood, where he landed a job instantly as a celebrity hair stylist behind the scenes, for hit TV show, All of Us, starring the beautiful Lisa Raye.

Dr. Boogie laughed infectiously, as he began to reminiscence:  “I like to make women feel good—my whole slogan is when you look good, you feel great. Where I came from, my mom was in a battered situation, and I used to comb her hair after she was going through a situation with my father. So I learned as a young child, that touching a woman’s hair and offering her an illusion, made her feel good on the outside and on the inside.”

It became apparent that Dr. Boogie was a star in his own right when he landed a coveted spot on popular reality TV show, Sheer Genius, where he competed against eleven other stylists from across the country, for a 10,000 grand prize. Dr. Boogie visibly stood out the show, and he soon became noted for his impressive technical hair styling skills, sharp sense of humor, and wit.

Soon, everyone began requesting for Dr. Boogie’s magical hands to touch their heads—even superstar, Kimora Lee Simmons, couldn’t get enough. Dr. Boogie shared, “I did Kimora’s hair a couple of times, and she loved it so much that Russell invited me back to do her hair on a permanent basis. I practically lived with them, and did her hair 24/7.”

Dr. Boogie admitted that most of his relationships with most of his celebrity clients started out as business, and quickly turned into friendship. “I knew Kimora personally,” he revealed. “The Kimora I knew was the sweetest person on earth, not this diva she was made out to be on TV. This was a woman who was concerned about other people’s feelings. Kimora is the definition of fabulosity--She is absolutely beautiful. Her beauty regimen--pinch her cheeks, lip gloss and go.”

“Every one wants to know the dirt about their fave celebrities,” he explained. “And since I do just about every talked about celebrities’ hair in Hollywood, I figured why not dispel the rumors, and let the stars reveal the truth.”

Perhaps it is Dr. Boogie’s infectious personality that enables him to form close friendships with all of his clients, particularly actresses Vivica A. Fox, and Lisa Raye, who is the spokes woman for his booming hair empire, Boogie Secrets.

As the president and creative director of Boogie Secrets, Dr. Boogie aims to create sexy hairpieces for every woman, that are both easy to wear and affordable.
“I am the only African American hair stylist that owns and manufactures a line of hair pieces in a largely Asian dominated industry,” Dr. Boogie stressed. “My hair pieces are easy to apply, and will make any woman look and feel fabulous. So please support a brother!”

Known for his love to share hair tips and hot gossip, Dr. Boogie recently launched his guilty pleasure blog, “Chair Chat with Dr. Boogie,” a concept he believes, is a ‘delicious combination.’

“Every one wants to know the dirt about their fave celebrities,” he explained. “And since I do just about every talked about celebrities’ hair in Hollywood, I figured why not dispel the rumors, and let the stars reveal the truth. While I am doing their hair, I am giving you the inside info straight from the source’s mouth, and what could be more better than that?” he laughed.

Hair care is what Dr. Boogie is most passionate about. If African American women desire longer hair, he advocated, “I know that we all want bouncy hair, bounce, bounce, bounce, but ladies, ya’ll need oil!” he laughed. “If you go back to the gerri curl days, every one with gerri curls had hair. That hair was hydrated, so if you keep your hair oiled and healthy, (not greasy,) and brush it up, and pull it back every so often, after lightly oiling the scalp, and applying a Dr. Boogie’s bun, watch it grow. The key is hydration. And remember ladies, your body is a temple, what you eat is your hair. ”

Dr. Boogie snitches, and reveals the latest with Lisa Raye, Vivica A. Fox, Keri Hilson, his latest project, (that just might surprise you,) and shares more of his infamous hair style secrets!
