In the middle of recording her latest album singer/songwriter Angie Stone had to deal with an "Unexpected" tragedy. Stone’s father, who had been her rock and and creative inspiration, died suddenly.
“It was totally unexpected,” Stone said on her Web site, . “And that’s where I came up with the title of the album. I really didn’t think I could finish the project, because I was so grief stricken ... I had to do a lot of the vocals a second time. I had to lean on my dad’s wisdom and energy, and try to be open to what he would have wanted me to do in order to finish the songs. I can say that his spirit was literally there in the studio with me, and I’m grateful for that.”
In addition to promoting her album, which was released late last month, Stone is also reaching out into films. She will star with acting prodigy 12-year-old Gabi Wilson in “The School Gyrls,” the story of a girl singing group. Stone plays the school’s headmistress in the movie produced by Nick Cannon. It is scheduled for release in January on the Nickelodeon network.
